Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Mykola Oliva and Ostap Zaryansky

On Tuesday, March 12, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Mykola Oliva and Ostap Zaryansky, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders.

Lviv City Hall urges Lviv residents and visitors to refrain from holding any entertainment events or celebrations during this time.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, followed by a city farewell ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Rynok Square. The defenders will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Biographical information about the defenders

Mykola Oliva (19.12.1997-27.02.2024). A resident of Lviv.

He studied at Lyceum #66 of the Lviv City Council. He studied at first at the State Educational Institution “Lviv Interregional Higher Vocational School of Railway Transport”, then entered the Separate Structural Subdivision “Lviv Professional College of Transport Infrastructure of Lviv Polytechnic National University”.

After graduation, he served in the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

He worked at the railroad in Lviv. He was a cross-country runner and participated in races to support the military. He was also fond of parachuting – he dreamed of joining the paratroopers.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to defend his homeland from the occupiers. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state as part of the 80th separate Galician Air Assault Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was seriously wounded near Kreminna, but after treatment returned to the front to his comrades. During his service, he actively improved his knowledge of military affairs.

Mykola Oliva is survived by his parents, brother and close family.

Ostap Zaryansky (16.01.1996-07.03.2024). A resident of Lviv.

He lost his father at the age of 10.

He studied at the secondary school №62. He received the profession of “Bookbinder, computer typing operator” at the State Educational Institution “Stavropigial Higher Vocational School of Lviv”.

He was discharged from military service for health reasons. After graduation, he worked as a Regional Manager at Roks. He led a healthy lifestyle and had deep knowledge of computer engineering.

Junior sergeant. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to defend his homeland from the invaders. He performed combat missions as a squad leader of an engineer platoon in the ranks of the 125th separate territorial defense brigade of the regional directorate “West” of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ostap Zaryansky is survived by his mother and two brothers with their families.
