Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Serhiy Kostochkin and Anatoly Matat

On Friday, January 12, Lviv will say goodbye to servicemen Serhiy Kostochkin and Anatoly Matat, who died defending Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The servicemen’s funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 2:30 p.m. a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.

The soldiers will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of defenders

Serhii Kostochkin (02.08.1990-05.01.2024). A native of Lviv.

Studied at the Lviv secondary school of grades I-III No. 43 of the Lviv city council of the Lviv region. Subsequently, he received his education at the Chernobyl Heroes Fire Safety Academy in Cherkasy.

After completing his studies, he completed his military service in Yavorov, Lviv region, as part of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo of the operational command “West” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Then Serhii Kostochkin moved to Kyiv and served in the State Security Department of Ukraine for 3 years.

After returning to Lviv, he worked at the Limited Liability Company “Avalon Construction Company”, and later moved to the Republic of Poland. In his free time, he liked to fish, and was also fond of computer games.

Senior soldier. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he returned to the Motherland and joined the ranks of the 45th regiment named after Oleksandr Krasitskyi of the National Guard of Ukraine. In August 2023, he joined the 3rd separate battalion for the protection of particularly important state facilities of the Central Operational Territorial Association of NSU. At first, he courageously defended the state in Volyn and Kyiv region, and during the last period – in the Zaporozhye region.

Serhiy Kostochkin is survived by his parents and wife.

Anatoly Matat (26.07.1985-24.12.2023). A native of Lviv.

He studied at Lyceum No. 57 named after King Danylo of the Lviv City Council. Received vocational and technical education in the field of food industry in the city of Lviv.

In peacetime, Anatoliy Matat worked as a handyman in the construction industry.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to protect the Motherland from the invaders. Defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state as part of the 115th separate mechanized brigade of the Ground Forces Reserve Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Performed combat tasks in the eastern direction of the front.

Anatoly Matat is survived by his mother, brother and daughter.
