Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Yevhen Uzunov and Andrii Rubel

On Friday, October 27, Lviv will say goodbye to servicemen Yevhen Uzunov and Andriy Rubel, who defended Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The servicemen’s funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of defenders

Yevhen Uzunov (July 22, 1976-October 22, 2023). A native of Lviv.

Studied at Lyceum No. 45 of the Lviv City Council, later received vocational and technical education at a local school. After completing his studies, he served in the military in Simferopol.

In the early 2000s, he joined the Navy and lived in Yevpatoria.

After returning to Lviv, he worked in the light industry, producing shoes. In his free time, he was fond of audio equipment and cars. He learned new things easily and was a “jack of all trades”, successfully completed any task.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion, he volunteered to defend the Motherland in the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine. Defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state as part of the 2nd separate Galician Brigade of the Western Operational Territorial Association of NSU. Constantly improved his military skills.

Yevhen Uzunov is survived by three children, a common-law wife, an ex-wife, a sister, a brother, cousins, a stepmother and an aunt.

Andrii Rubel (October 2, 1983-October 13, 2023). A native of Lviv.

He studied at the Zvertiv General Secondary Education Institute of Grades I-II, after graduating from the 9th grade he entered the Kulikiv Foundation of General Secondary Education of Grades I-III. He was educated at the former Lviv Institute of Economics and Tourism.

After completing his studies, he worked as a locksmith at the Limited Liability Company “Production Enterprise “Ukrzakhidavtospecmash”, later he worked as a painter at a local enterprise. He was an extremely sociable and responsible person, passionately fond of football: at one time he played in several football teams of the Lviv region.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the ranks of the 65th separate mechanized brigade of the operational command “West” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the Motherland from the invaders. Performed combat missions on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia region.

Andriy Rubel is survived by his grandmother, mother, wife, 12-year-old son and brother.
