On Wednesday, 21 November, Lviv will say goodbye to soldier Ivan Soltys, who gave his life defending Ukraine from Russian occupiers.
The mayor’s office calls on residents and visitors to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment and celebrations during this time.
The funeral ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul. Later, at approximately 10:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The defender will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographical information about the defender
Ivan Soltys (19.01.1978-19.11.2024). A resident of Lviv.
He studied at Lviv Secondary School No. 82 of the Lviv City Council. He received a degree in car repair at the State Vocational Educational Institution “Interregional Higher Vocational School of Motor Transport and Construction”. He served in the engineering troops.
He worked in the field of transport: first in the collection service, then as a driver at the Blood Transfusion Institute.
According to his family, he was extremely friendly, positive, cheerful, selfless and always came to the rescue. He was especially fond of car repairs.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, he stood up to defend his homeland from the invasion of Russian occupiers. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine in the Kharkiv direction, where he was seriously wounded, as a member of the 125th separate territorial defence brigade of the regional directorate “West” of the territorial defence forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He was twice awarded the Cross of the Territorial Defence Forces and other decorations from the command.
Ivan Soltys is survived by his mother, brother, wife and two children.
