On Monday, March 18, Lviv will say goodbye to military serviceman Taras Soroka, who died in battle while defending Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.
The serviceman’s funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, and at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Taras Soroka (“Bird”) (November 15, 1974-March 27, 2023) from Lviv.
Studied at Secondary Secondary School No. 40 of the city of Lviv. He was educated at the Lviv Vocational Technical School No. 31 (today – the State Educational Institution “Lviv Higher Vocational School of Household Services”). After completing his studies, he served in the military.
In peacetime, he worked in Poland and Germany in the construction field. According to relatives, he was an “extremely kind husband and loving father.” Taras Soroka liked to rest with his wife in the Carpathians, and also liked to cook in his spare time.
Performed combat tasks in the anti-terrorist operation area as part of the 7th border Carpathian detachment. With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, he returned to the Motherland.
Defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state in the ranks of the 125th separate territorial defense brigade of the “West” regional administration of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At first, he fought against the occupiers in Sumy region and Kharkiv region, and in 2023 he performed combat missions in the “hot spots” of Luhansk region and Donetsk region, in particular, in the city of Bakhmut. He showed himself heroically, repeatedly participating in direct battles with the invaders.
Taras Soroka is survived by his mother, wife, son and brother.
