Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to defender Vasyl Kolodiy

 

On Saturday, August 10, Lviv will say goodbye to soldier Vasyl Kolodiy, who died at the hands of Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine.

The mayor’s office calls on residents to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.

Vasyl Kolodiy will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.

Biographical note on the defender

Vasyl Kolodii (16.11.1979 – 07.04.2024) A resident of Lviv.

He studied at the secondary school №40 in Lviv. He received his vocational education at the State Vocational School of Higher Vocational School of Road Transport and Construction, specializing in construction and finishing.

He served in the Civil Defense Forces of Ukraine of the Ministry of Emergencies and Protection of the Population from the Consequences of the Chornobyl Disaster (now the State Emergency Service of Ukraine).

He worked in Ukraine and abroad in the construction industry.

According to his family, “…Vasyl was a kind and sincere man, who loved his family above all else, for whom he was always a strong support. He was fond of music, cars and mountain tourism. He was a sincere patriot, devoted to his country and his comrades.”

With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he returned from abroad and voluntarily joined the 103rd separate territorial defense brigade of the regional directorate “West” of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. He was devoted to his country and his comrades-in-arms, with whom he performed combat missions side by side for two years.

Vasyl Kolodii is survived by his wife, daughter, mother, brother and sister.
