Lviv will say goodbye to defender Vyacheslav Degtyar tomorrow

On Saturday, 2 March, Lviv will say goodbye to soldier Vyacheslav Degtyar, who was killed by Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine. Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, followed by a city farewell ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

The defender’s biographical information

Viacheslav Degtyar (31.03.1971-08.03.2022). A native of the city of Kryvyi Rih.

He studied at the Kryvyi Rih Gymnasium №62 of the Kryvyi Rih City Council. He received his education at the Separate Structural Subdivision “Mining and Electromechanical College of Kryvyi Rih National University”.

After graduation, he served in the automotive troops.

He lived with his family in the Mykolaiv region, where he was engaged in agriculture. He was fond of sports, read a lot and devoted time to raising his two sons. According to his family, “Viacheslav Degtyar was devoted to his land and always told only the truth”.

During 2014-2015, he performed combat missions in the anti-terrorist operation zone as part of the 28th separate mechanised brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Hike of the operational command “South” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to defend his homeland from the occupiers. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state in the ranks of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilynskyi of the Ukrainian Navy.

Viacheslav Degtyar is survived by his wife and two sons.
