Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defender Yuriy Kotsovskyi

On Tuesday, 26 November, Lviv will say goodbye to soldier Yuriy Kotsovskyi, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders.

The mayor’s office calls on residents and guests of the city to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment and celebrations at this time.

The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul. Later, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.

The soldier will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

The defender’s biographical note

Yurii Kotsovskyi (20.04.1966-21.11.2024) was a resident of Lviv.

He studied at Lviv Secondary School No. 7 of the Lviv City Council.

After graduation, he enlisted for military service.

When he returned, he worked as a monument maker. In his spare time, he was fond of football.

From the first months of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to defend the state from the invaders. He performed combat missions to defend the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine in the ranks of the 125th separate territorial defence brigade of the regional directorate “West” of the Territorial Defence Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For his personal courage, he was awarded numerous decorations, including the medal “For Wounding” and the medal “Cross of the Territorial Defence Forces”.

Yuriy Kotsovskyi is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son-in-law, two grandchildren, a brother, a goddaughter, nephews, friends and colleagues, and a large loving family.
