On Saturday, 6 July, Lviv will say goodbye to three soldiers. Oleh Haliant, Vasyl Kachynskyi, and Oleh Zarichnyi were killed by Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine.
Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s funeral ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.
The funeral service for defenders Oleh Zarichnyi and Oleh Haliant will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:45 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
The farewell to the defender Vasyl Kachynskyi will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the family home in the village of Zarudtsi (45A I. Franko Street). Afterwards, the funeral service will take place in the local Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. The soldier will be buried at the cemetery in Zarudtsi.
Biographical information about the defenders
Oleh Haliant (25.02.1995 – 01.07.2024) was a resident of Lviv.
He studied at the secondary school № 54 in Lviv. After graduation, he served in the military in Rivne.
He worked in the construction industry. In his spare time, he played football.
During 2015-2019, he defended the state in the Anti-Terrorist Operation. During the full-scale Russian invasion, he defended Ukraine in the ranks of the 5th separate assault brigade of the Kyiv Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in the Donetsk sector.
Oleh Haliant is survived by his grandmother, godmother, aunt and brother.
Oleh Zarichnyi (08.09.1972 – 02.07.2024) was a resident of Lviv.
He studied at Lyceum No. 18 of the Lviv City Council. He received his vocational education as a cook at the Lviv Vocational College of Hotel, Tourism and Restaurant Services (formerly – Vocational School No. 27).
After graduation, he performed military service in the 6th separate regiment of government communications troops of the Main Directorate of Government Communications of the Security Service of Ukraine, where he received the rank of junior sergeant.
In peacetime, he worked in car repair. He loved to go fishing.
During the full-scale Russian invasion, he defended Ukraine as a member of the 42nd separate mechanised brigade of the operational command “South” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in the Kharkiv sector.
Oleh Zarichnyi is survived by his wife, mother and son.
Vasyl Kachynskyi (22.06.1981 – 03.07.2024) Was born in the village of Zarudtsi, Lviv city territorial community.
He studied at the Zarudtsi Gymnasium of the Lviv City Council. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the Lviv National University of Environmental Management.
He worked as an engineer at Ukrzaliznytsia Joint Stock Company. According to his family, Vasyl was reserved, cheerful, friendly and fond of football.
With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he joined the ranks of the 2nd separate Galician Brigade of the Western Operational and Territorial Unit of the National Guard of Ukraine to defend the state. He performed combat missions in the Donetsk sector.
Vasyl Kachynskyi is survived by his mother, wife and grandmother.
