Tomorrow the Lviv community will say goodbye to two defenders

On Saturday, September 9, the Lviv community will say goodbye to two servicemen. Yurii Mochulskyi and Taras Gurskyi died at the hands of the Russian occupier while defending Ukraine. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service of Yury Mochulskyi will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 10:40 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried in his native village of Kupche, Lviv region.

The funeral service of Taras Gursky will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bryukhovychy (Father Izdryka St., 6). The soldier will be buried at the local cemetery in Bryukhovychy.

 

Biographical references of defenders

 

Yuriy Mochulskyi (May 6, 1995-August 29, 2023) was born in the village of Kupche, Lviv region.

He studied at the Buska support institution of general secondary education of the I-III year No. 1 of the Buska City Council. Having achieved considerable success in sports, he was transferred to the Municipal Institution of the Kyiv Regional Council “Kyiv Regional Olympic Training Center”.

Candidate for master of sports of Ukraine. He was involved in athletics, repeatedly won the title of winner of all-Ukrainian competitions and was a member of the national team of the Lviv region. Later, he graduated with honors from the Higher Vocational School No. 20 of the city of Lviv, majoring in “car repair mechanic”. In 2014, he entered the Ivan Bobersky Lviv State University of Physical Culture.

After completing his studies, he worked as a mechanic abroad. He was a master of his craft.

On the first day of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he returned to Ukraine and joined the ranks of the 103rd separate brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to his sister, Yuriy Mochulsky said: “I’m going home, I’m ready to die for Ukraine and its will.” Performed combat missions in the eastern direction. Despite the injury, he returned to the front and joined the ranks of “Azov”, where he quickly won the affection and respect of his comrades and performed the duties of a platoon commander.

Yury Mochulsky is survived by his parents, wife, sister and brother with their families.

 

Taras Gurskyi (15.01.1967-05.09.2023) A native of the village of Rozil, Lviv region.

He studied at the Novorozdil Lyceum named after Volodymyr Trush. Received higher education at the National Forestry University of Ukraine, majoring in Forestry. After completing his studies, he served in the tank troops.

Since 1995, he worked as a forester in the Bryukhovytsia Forestry as part of the State Enterprise “Lviv Forest Selection and Seed Center”.

In his free time, he was fond of fishing, cars, motorcycles, and electronics. He was engaged in gardening, viticulture and winemaking.

During 2014-2015, he performed combat missions in the area of the anti-terrorist operation as part of the 1st Separate Tank Siver Brigade of the Operational Command “North” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. By decree of the President of Ukraine, he was awarded the Order “For Courage” of the 3rd degree.

After returning to civilian life, he continued to work in forestry. In 2017, he signed a contract with the 10th separate mountain assault brigade “Edelweiss” of the operational command “West” of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, the Russian Federation returned to the front. Performed combat missions in Mykolaiv Oblast, Kherson Oblast, and Donetsk Oblast as part of the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakov Handziuk of the “South” Operational Command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Died on September 5 while performing a combat mission.

Taras Gursky is survived by his mother, wife, son, daughter, sister, nephews and godchildren.
