Since the beginning of the enemy’s full-scale invasion, brave soldiers have stood up to defend Ukraine. They held back the enemy invasion and are still bravely holding the line, defending every piece of their native land, recapturing the occupied territories and demonstrating to the world the power and invincibility of our nation every day.
There are many Drohobych residents in the Armed Forces of Ukraine who are bravely defending Ukraine from the enemy. Two soldiers from Drohobych were awarded honourable military decorations for their conscientious performance of combat duties in defence of Ukraine. Andriy Burak, a resident of Drohobych, received the Cross of Valour award from the Minister of Defence of Ukraine for successful combat missions. And Oleg Havdyak from Drohobych was awarded the Golden Cross by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny.
Andriy Burak, 38, from Drohobych, graduated from school No. 17. He is married and has two daughters. With the start of the full-scale invasion, Andriy sent his family abroad, and on 25 February 2022, he volunteered to defend Ukraine.
The Cross of Valour medal is awarded to servicemen and women of the Armed Forces of Ukraine whose service has been recognised as exceptionally useful.
It has also recently become known that another resident of Drohobych, platoon leader of the 67th separate battalion of the Special Forces, Oleh Havdyak, was awarded the Golden Cross medal by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi.
Oleh Havdyak, a 55-year-old resident of Drohobych, is a graduate of school No. 10. On the very first day of the full-scale enemy invasion, 24 February 2022, he enlisted in the TRO and has been defending Ukraine from the enemy at the frontline ever since.
The Golden Cross is awarded to privates and non-commissioned officers for the successful completion of combat missions.
