Changes in Traffic Regulations: Motorcycles and Mopeds on Public Transport Lanes
At today’s meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, changes were made to the traffic regulations. From now on, point 2.16 clearly states that motorcycle drivers (excluding motorcycles with a sidecar, motor carriages, and tricycles) are allowed to drive in public transport lanes. The same right has been granted to moped drivers, as specified in subparagraph ‘b’ of this point.
Purpose of the Initiative
- To reduce traffic congestion in large cities, as two-wheeled vehicles will be able to move more freely on the roads.
- To increase the safety level of moped and motorcycle drivers and other road users when driving in heavy traffic.
- To harmonize Ukrainian legislation with the practices of European Union countries, where such a solution has long been successfully implemented in many countries.
