On 25 September, a commemorative event took place at Radekhiv railway station: a memorial plaque in honour of Vasyl Ivanovych Kostyshak was installed and blessed on the station building.
For 26 years, Vasyl Kostyshak headed the Radekhiv railway station. On 2 August 2024, he set off to defend Ukraine, but was never able to return from the roads of war to his family and to the work he loved.
The memorial events began with a requiem service at the grave of Vasyl Kostyshak, after which those gathered proceeded to the ceremonial unveiling of the memorial plaque on the building of Radekhiv station. His mother, family, friends, work colleagues and business partners came to the event.
The fallen defender was remembered by the head of the united trade union organisation of the Lviv Directorate of Railway Transportation, Ivan Orestovych Matsiovskyi, Deputy Head of the Station Operations Service for the Lviv Region, Zenovii Mykhailovych Finiak, Head of Sosnivka station of the Sosnivka station subdivision of the Lviv Region, Serhii Volodymyrovych Hnidets, as well as the town mayor, Stepan Petrovych Kokhanchuk.
“This memorial plaque bears witness to the fact that, for as long as our hearts beat, the name of Vasyl Ivanovych Kostyshak will live on in the grateful memory of the people of Radekhiv, in prayers and heartfelt recollections, in the free skies above Ukraine. 26 September marks two years since the death of V. I. Kostyshak. Those present at the event prayed for the repose of his soul and thanked the defender for his service and his sacrifice.
