A memorial space to contemporary defenders of Ukraine opened in Lysynychi

A new memorial space dedicated to contemporary defenders of Ukraine has been created in Lysynychi, part of the Lviv community. It was opened on 1 November, on the anniversary of the November Uprising, during commemorative events.

As reported by the Office for Agglomeration and Community Development of Lviv City Council, residents, servicemen carrying flags and members of the clergy gathered on the paved avenue by the memorial stands. Comrades-in-arms, representatives of the colour party of the 12th Special Purpose Brigade “Azov”, families of the fallen and members of the community came to honour those who died defending Ukraine from the Russian occupier.

During the official opening, priests consecrated the memorial plaques, those present prayed together and lit votive candles as a sign of gratitude and respect for the fallen soldiers.

“This day is symbolic for us also because one of the co-founders of the November Uprising — an event of great importance for the formation of Ukrainian statehood, Petro Bubela — came from Lysynychi. Today we honour the contemporary defenders who gave their lives for our state,” said the head of the Office for Agglomeration and Community Development, Nataliia Alieksieieva.

The memorial space in Lysynychi is located on a rise at the entrance to the village, next to the Community Office. Eleven memorial plaques to residents of Lysynychi who were killed have been installed here, along with a flagpole and walkways for visitors.

The area has also been landscaped: an oak, a larch, Pissardii plum trees and other plants symbolising the continuation of life have been planted. For visitors’ convenience, park furniture has been installed so that people can pause in peace, pray and pay tribute to the fallen defenders.
