Avenue of Glory to defenders unveiled in the village of Luhove in the Zolochiv district

In the village of Luhove in the Zabolottsi community in the Zolochiv district, a blessing of the restored cross and the opening of an Avenue of Glory took place in honour of local servicemen who were killed or died as a result of the war.

The new cross was installed on the site of the previous ones. The first was erected after the abolition of corvée labour, but in 1939 it was destroyed by the Soviet authorities. In the 1940s, the cross and grave were restored, but the people who took part in this work suffered repression. In 1993 a third cross appeared at this spot, which over time was also destroyed. Now the shrine has again been restored.

On the newly created Avenue of Glory, photographs and names of the fallen and deceased soldiers from Luhove have been placed. Among them: Roman Yavorskyi, an ATO participant and serviceman of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade, who was killed on 10 May 2022 at the age of 30; Yurii Baturyn, a rifleman-sniper, killed on 21 August 2023 near Ivanivske, aged 27; Vasyl Chornyi, squad commander of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade, killed on 9 September 2023 near Bila Hora at the age of 23.

They also paid tribute to Andrii Sitka, a serviceman of a mechanised unit, who was killed on 16 June 2023 near Nova Tokmachka at the age of 37; Volodymyr Ilkiv, an ATO participant and medic of the 100th Separate Mechanised Brigade, who died on 6 May 2025 during rehabilitation at the age of 45; Ihor Redko, a grenadier who was killed on 11 November 2024 in Donetsk region at the age of 51.

The boards of the Avenue of Glory also contain information about Viktor Potsiluiko, an ATO participant and serviceman of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade, who died on 22 March 2015 from his wounds at the age of 38, and Roman Kosik, an ATO participant who died on 30 March 2018 at the age of 46.

The residents of Luhove and the Zabolottsi community remember the soldiers and emphasise that the Avenue of Glory and the restored cross should become a place of lasting remembrance of their sacrifice.
