In the village of Ostriv, on the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, a Memorial Alley was opened in the courtyard of the local gymnasium. It is dedicated to former pupils of the school who died defending Ukraine’s freedom and independence.
During the opening, relatives of the fallen servicemen, together with pupils, planted young cherry trees along the Alley and placed name plaques beside them. The trees and plaques are intended to remind schoolchildren and fellow villagers every day of the high price of peace and security.
The Alley honours former pupils and defenders: Vasyl Solyak, Mykhailo Solyak, Ruslan Skebskyi, Viktor Huliadyk, Stepan Lutchyn, Volodymyr Vasko, Roman Kalysh, Vitalii Fediv, Andrii Semkiv, Andrii Stepanko, Roman Krutyi (Vulchyn), Viktor Telehii and Taras Klepak.
It is noted that the creation of the Memorial Alley was made possible thanks to the unity of the entire community. The Sheptytska City Council, the elder of the village of Ostriv, Iryna Chipak, local entrepreneurs and residents all contributed to arranging the space and helped make this place worthy of honouring the fallen defenders.
Participants in the event stressed that paying tribute to fallen soldiers and preserving the memory of them is an important part of educating the younger generation and strengthening national consciousness.
