From September 1, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine plans to switch to the New Julian calendar

This was announced by the head of Lviv OVA Maksym Kozytskyi.

“Now, believers of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine will celebrate Christmas on December 25. Today, the OCU held a council of bishops, during which the transition to the New Julian calendar was approved. It will happen from September 1. I congratulate the Primate of the OCU His Beatitude Epiphanius and all the parishioners on an important historical decision. I am glad that the OCU and the UGCC are united on this issue,” said the head of the Lviv Oblast.

Note that with the transition to the new calendar, the date of celebration of not only Christmas, but all holidays changes. In particular, Saint Nicholas Day is December 6, not December 19, Epiphany is January 6, not January 18. At the same time, the date of Easter and some other holidays will not change.

At the same time, parishes and monasteries that wish to adhere to the old calendar will have this opportunity – the calendar reform will take place without coercion, gradually and consciously.

We will remind you that in February of this year, the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church adopted a decision on the transition of the UGCC to the New Julian calendar from September 1.
