Completion of Years-Long Studies at Lychakiv Cemetery
Years-long studies and exhumation at the Lychakiv Cemetery territory have been completed. A total of 1804 remains were found and properly reburied.
Reburial of Remains
- 27 World War I soldiers — reburied alongside their comrades from the Austro-Hungarian army.
- 1753 — Soviet army and post-war period soldiers — transferred to the Holoskivsky Cemetery.
- 24 — Wehrmacht soldiers — transferred for burial at the German military cemetery in Potelychi.
This place has witnessed much: World War I and the arrival of Soviet power, which used bulldozers to destroy old graves to bury their own “new ones.” People were buried chaotically, often violating any customs.
We had to do this to restore justice and ensure this place is remembered not for empires but for our Heroes.
The next step — Hill of Glory. We start tomorrow!
