“Stick Festivals for the Ukrainian Family”: a colorful festival took place in Stryshchyna

Visitors sculpted sticks, made folk dolls and learned about ancient Ukrainian traditions.

In Stryi, on the territory of the Higher Vocational School No. 8, to the Day of the Ukrainian Family, the cultural heritage sector of the Stryi RVA organized the ethnic festival “Stick Festivals for the Ukrainian Family”.

A gastronomic workshop was held for the residents of Stryi Oblast and VPO on making sticks according to the ancient recipes of the region. In addition to the gastronomic part of the event, a master class by Lidia Bozhenko on making a free book “I believe and thank the ZSU” and “Angels for the ZSU” from laces was held for everyone.

Craftsmen Tetyana Yurychko from Zaporizhzhia and Maria Zablotska from Khodoriv region, who preserve and revive the Ukrainian traditions of puppetry, taught the guests of the event how to make folk dolls. The Ukrainian folk toy has an extremely rich history. She combined everything: the life and daily life of the people, customs and traditions, rites and rituals, so women especially liked this workshop.

Olha Bodnar, the chief specialist of the cultural heritage sector, together with the director of Zhydachiv Vocational Lyceum Maryan Kushnir, presented the love story of Ivan and Olena Vyhovsky – a promotional workshop from the “Legendary Names of Ukraine” series.

At the end of the event, the participants of the ethnic festival planted sakura and catalpa trees as symbols of a strong and happy family in a free, independent, flourishing state.
