Chess Tournament in Lviv Attracts 130 Participants

On 22 April, the Lviv Palace of Arts hosted the fourth simultaneous chess exhibition in support of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The event commenced with a minute’s silence for the fallen defenders.

International grandmasters Marta Litynska, Oleg Romanishin, Oleksandr Beliavsky, Adrian Mikhalchyshyn, and Volodymyr Vetoshko participated. Among the participants were military personnel, veterans, medics, rescuers, law enforcement officers, cadets, and young people. In total, the event gathered 130 participants.

“This tournament has already become a good tradition. It’s not just about sport, but also about developing thinking and supporting our military. Thank you to everyone who participated,” said Yaroslav Hasiak, the Chief Executive of the Lviv Regional Council.

A simultaneous exhibition is a format where one or several grandmasters play against many opponents at once. This format combines spectacle and allows participants of various levels to join. As part of the event, funds were also raised for the volunteer organisation “Lviv Knight”, which supports military personnel on the front line.
