Preparations are under way in Drohobych for the city’s first bike rock festival, “ЙОЙ ФЕСТ” (YOY FEST). The event is to be held in Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Park, where municipal services are currently putting the grounds in order. This was reported by Drohobych City Council.
Recently, an off-site working meeting on the creation of a new public space was held in the park, chaired by Mayor Taras Kuchma. The meeting was attended by the Director of the Department of Municipal Economy Andrii Pautynka, heads of the relevant municipal departments and utility companies.
Officials assessed the state of readiness of the grounds, outlined the next stages of work and agreed the placement of key elements of the festival infrastructure. In particular, this concerns the main stage, the tent camp, individual functional zones and areas for thematic activities.
At present, clearance work is being carried out in the park, greenery is being tidied up and other landscaping measures are under way. The aim of this work is to create safe and comfortable conditions both for hosting YOY FEST and for the future use of the site for large public events.
In parallel, the festival programme is being developed. Its concept has been drawn up by the Department of Culture and Tourism Development. Head of the Culture and Arts Division Lesia Tatarska notes that YOY FEST is conceived as a charity event that will bring together motorbike culture, rock music, creative spaces, camping and active leisure.
The organisers are in talks with Ukrainian rock bands about taking part in the event. The programme is also expected to include charity auctions, motorbike contests and various entertainment and educational activities for visitors.
The meeting also discussed the long-term development of the park area. In the future, there are plans to create a modern multifunctional space similar to Drohobych’s Singing Field, which would host concerts, festivals and other cultural, artistic and community events. The first large-scale event at the renewed site is to be YOY FEST itself.
The festival is planned as one of the key events in the programme marking the 935th anniversary of Drohobych. It will take the form of a charity event: entry will be by donation, and the funds raised will be directed towards supporting the veterans’ community and developing the Veterans’ Development Centre of the Drohobych community.
