In Sambir in the Lviv region, the 3rd Boiko Culture Festival “Boiko-FEST in Sambir” took place, bringing together performers, folk art masters and admirers of Boiko traditions from various regions of Ukraine.
On Sunday, 7 June, the festival was hosted by the municipal institution of the Lviv Regional Council, the “Boikivshchyna” Historical and Ethnographic Museum. The event traditionally began with the sound of trembitas, after which, throughout the day, folk and amateur ensembles, vocal groups and dance troupes from the Lviv region and Prykarpattia performed on stage.
One of the central events was a show of the traditional textile collection “Mysterious Fern” by designer Oksana Sokol, who is reviving the ancient Boiko technique of block printing on fabric.
An exhibition-fair of folk crafts was held on the museum grounds. Craftspeople from the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions presented authentic items made of ceramics, beads, textiles and natural stone. Workshops in straw weaving, painting on items and making motanka rag dolls were organised for visitors.
The festival was held with the support of the Lviv Regional Military Administration and the Lviv Regional Council, in cooperation with Sambir City Council, the “Boikivshchyna” Museum and the Sambir Vocational College of Culture and Arts.
