In the village of Urich in the Stryi district of the Lviv region, among the rocks of the ancient fortress of Tustan, the “Tu Stan. Path of the Hero” festival is taking place from 31 July to 2 August. The event combines historical re-enactment, folk art, theatre, music and traditional crafts.
This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of one of the festival’s founders, Hero of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy. The official opening began with a procession of members of historical re-enactment clubs, knights, artisans and craftspeople who had come from various regions of Ukraine.
“Once, Tustan was a crossroads of trade routes, and today it is a place where everyone can find an answer to the question of who we are, what our ancestors were like and which values unite us. It reminds us yet again that a true fortress begins not with rocks or stone, but with people — with the community, unity and traditions that we preserve and pass on to future generations,” noted the Chief of Staff of the Lviv Regional Council, Yaroslav Hasyak.
The festival programme includes knightly tournaments, historical re-enactments, theatrical performances, workshops in medieval crafts, musical performances and the traditional storming of the fortress. The event will conclude on 2 August with concerts, literary gatherings, a poetry stage and the presentation of new historical locations.
