Cold and Dry Weather in Late April in the Lviv Region

In late April, the Lviv region experienced cold, dry, and windy weather. Only on certain days were slight showers recorded. The average decadal air temperatures ranged from 4.9 to 8.7 degrees Celsius, which is 3.1 to 4.5 degrees below the norm.

The maximum temperature rose to 17 – 22 degrees Celsius, while the minimum dropped to -3 to 8 degrees. Precipitation amounts were predominantly 0.2 – 6 mm, which is only 1 – 40% of the decadal norm. Conditions for the growth and development of agricultural crops were unfavourable, and for fruit trees, very unfavourable.

Due to the dry, windy weather, soil moisture reserves decreased: in the 0 – 20 cm layer, they were 7 – 26 mm, insufficient for grain germination and the emergence of early grain shoots.

Winter cereals are at the stem growth stage. Severe frosts damaged the blossom of stone fruit trees, which bloomed massively during the decade.
