
On the evening of 9 March, at around 19:30, a fatal road traffic collision occurred on the Stryi–Ternopil road in the village of Dobriany, Stryi district. An elderly pedestrian was killed in the incident.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement, a 31-year-old resident of Stryi district, driving a Volkswagen Golf, struck a woman believed to be aged between 70 and 80. The identity of the deceased is yet to be established. The pedestrian died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
In connection with the incident, investigators from the transport crime unit of the Lviv Oblast police have opened a criminal case under Part 2, Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of road safety rules or vehicle operation by persons in control of a vehicle. Similar proceedings under this article have been opened in other high-profile cases in Lviv Oblast, including an incident in which a motorcyclist injured a woman in Lviv.
The article carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with or without disqualification from driving for a period of up to three years. The circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated by officers of the Stryi District Police Department.
