Government expands state support for sheep and goat farming and farm construction

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has expanded state support programmes for the sheep and goat farming sectors, as well as for the construction and reconstruction of livestock farms. From now on, not only livestock enterprises and agricultural processors, but also producers engaged in breeding sheep and goats will be able to apply for compensation.

Pedigree sheep and goats have been added to the list of assets eligible for state support. Partial reimbursement of costs also extends to farms and complexes for their keeping.

For agricultural producers who, after 24 February 2022, relocated their business from frontline areas, the level of compensation for the construction and reconstruction of farms has been increased to 50% of the asset value. In addition, in 2026 it will be possible to receive reimbursement for assets built or reconstructed in 2025.

«Extending state support to sheep and goat farming is an important step towards restoring livestock numbers and developing these sectors», — Taras Vysotskyi.

According to the State Statistics Service, as of the beginning of 2026 there were 761.1 thousand head of sheep and goats in Ukraine. Compared with the pre-war period, their numbers have fallen by almost 30%.
