The Radekhiv community welcomed a group of children from the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia region, who came for a holiday as part of the project “Side by Side: United Communities”. The trip was organised in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Vodyane Village Military Administration and the Radekhiv City Council.
The decision to take part in the project and to host the children was previously agreed during personal meetings between the Mayor of the Radekhiv community, Stepan Kokhanchuk, and the leadership of the Vodyane Village Military Administration, and was also supported by the deputies of the Radekhiv City Council.
As a result of these arrangements, 14 children aged from 6 to 15, accompanied by two teacher-mentors, were able to rest and recuperate in the Ukrainian Carpathians, and also spent several days as guests in Radekhiv. For children accustomed to daily explosions and shelling, the community sought to create an atmosphere of safety, support and homeliness.
A full leisure programme was put together with the help of the Radekhiv Historical and Local History Museum, TRC “Radekhiv”, the community’s “Resilience Centre”, the tourist ethno-complex “Hawk’s Nest”, the children’s library in Radekhiv, and the “Rybachok” recreational complex in the village of Sushno. The Radekhiv City Council arranged an interesting excursion to Lviv and prepared pleasant meetings and opportunities to socialise for the guests, while LLC “Halychyna Dairy Company” provided tasty refreshments.
During the visit, the children stayed with local Radekhiv families: the families of Olha and Nazarii Tomkiv, and Yuliia and Nazar Lukachiv. They were the ones who created a homely atmosphere and care, for which the community extends its sincere thanks.
The organisers stress that such trips show that Ukraine has not only incredible nature, but also people ready to support one another in the most difficult times. The community wishes the children a peaceful, happy future and looks forward to new meetings in a peaceful and prosperous Ukraine.
