Lviv marks the 100th birthday of Liudmyla Borchakovska

Resident of the Lviv community Liudmyla Ivanivna Borchakovska has celebrated her 100th birthday. To mark this remarkable occasion, a representative of the city Department of Social Protection, Ivan Fasolnyk, visited her to offer congratulations on behalf of the city.

The official presented Mrs Liudmyla with a one-off financial payment of 10,000 UAH from the city budget, as well as a so-called “longevity basket” with fruit and a bouquet of flowers. During the visit, the centenarian, her relatives and the department employee took a photograph together as a keepsake.

According to the city Department of Social Protection, Liudmyla Borchakovska worked as a doctor for more than 55 years and devoted her life to helping people.

“Behind each year of her work lie human lives, restored health, heartfelt words of gratitude and the kindness that remains in people's memories. One hundred years is an entire life story, full of events, trials, encounters and memories. And it is especially valuable when behind you are so many years of work, dedication to your vocation and care for others,” said Tetiana Kolesnyk

Lviv has a tradition of honouring its long-livers. Those who celebrate their 100th birthday receive, on the day itself, a one-off payment of 10,000 UAH, a commemorative coin and a congratulatory letter from the Mayor. Residents who reach the age of 101 and over also receive 10,000 UAH every year on their birthday.

For 18 years now, Department of Social Protection employee Ivan Fasolnyk has personally congratulated the oldest residents of the Lviv community. For many of them, he has become not only a representative of the city, but also someone who brings a sense of celebration and reminds them that the community remembers and honours its long-livers.
