Lviv Creates the First Barrier-Free Route 14.6 km Long

The implementation of the first barrier-free route, which will be 14.6 km long, has commenced in Lviv.

An on-site inspection of a part of the future route took place in the Lychakiv district. The event was attended by architects, urban planners, experts on groups with limited mobility, and representatives of the authorities. The route covers streets around Lviv National Medical University, student dormitories, parks, and public areas. These places are currently physically inaccessible or unsafe for people with disabilities, the elderly, parents with strollers, and others with limited mobility.

The project ‘Movement Without Barriers’ is being implemented as part of the First Lady Olena Zelenska’s initiative. It is coordinated by the Ministry of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine, and on a regional level by the Lviv Regional State Administration.

‘Barrier-free means dignity, equal rights, a new quality of life in which everyone is comfortable: someone using a wheelchair, a blind student, and older people. It’s not about ‘adding a ramp’, it’s about a complete re-evaluation of how we see the city’, emphasized Oleksandr Kulepin, Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
