In Ukraine, benefits have been introduced for manufacturers of drones with fiber optic control.
Ukrainian Laws No. 4473-IX and No. 4474-IX have come into effect, amending the Customs and Tax Codes of Ukraine. They expand the list of defense-oriented goods exempt from import duty and value-added tax.
Preferential import is allowed for optical fibers, fiber-optic harnesses, and other types of fiber-optic cables classified under UKTZED codes 9001 10 90 10 and 9001 10 90 90.
Without paying import duty and VAT, these goods can only be imported by enterprises for use in their own production or repair of aerial, ground, and waterborne unmanned systems for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other military formations, law enforcement, intelligence, and special agencies tasked with state defense functions.
For companies involved in manufacturing drones on fiber optic control systems, this creates significant potential for scaling production volumes. Unlike traditional radio control, such drones are virtually invulnerable to electronic warfare measures. They are nearly impossible to jam or intercept, which is critically important in combat situations.
