Valencia has become the first city in Spain to officially join the international UNBROKEN Cities network. The signing of the document on Valencia’s accession to the initiative was announced by the Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, following his visit to the Spanish city.
The UNBROKEN Cities network already includes more than 20 cities from various countries around the world. Its members cooperate in the development of modern medical rehabilitation systems, support for people affected by war, and exchange municipal experience to strengthen community resilience.
«We greatly value the assistance of our international partners, thanks to which we are developing UNBROKEN projects in Lviv for our patients, veterans and everyone who needs treatment and rehabilitation. But today we also have experience we can share. Unfortunately, war teaches us things you won’t find in books,» said Andriy Sadovyi.
During his visit to Valencia, the Mayor of Lviv also took part in a conference dedicated to innovation and defence. The event focused on urban resilience, security issues and communities’ preparedness for crisis situations.
As part of the programme in Valencia, an exhibition by Ukrainian artist Serhii Maidukov was presented. His works are dedicated to Ukrainian defenders and patients of the UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Centre.
The UNBROKEN Cities community already includes the Ukrainian cities of Lviv and Bucha, the British cities of Liverpool and Manchester, the German cities of Frankfurt am Main, Würzburg and Düsseldorf, the French cities of Lyon and Cannes, the Belgian city of Mechelen, the Danish city of Aarhus, the Norwegian capital Oslo, the Polish city of Rzeszow, the Romanian city of Timișoara, the Bulgarian capital Sofia, the Italian city of Trento, the Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung, the US city of Cleveland and the Latvian capital Riga.
The network is operated by the School of Municipal Governance of the UNBROKEN University.
