A 55-year-old resident of the Stryi district is suspected of killing a neighbor’s dog.
On January 24, a 37-year-old dog owner contacted the police, reporting the killing of her pet. Investigators, crime scene officers, and forensic specialists from Police Department No. 3 of the Stryi District Police Department worked at the scene.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the 55-year-old local resident, upon seeing a stranger’s dog on her property, shot it with a Crosman Phantom air rifle. The animal died as a result of the sustained injury.
Investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the woman of her suspicion of committing a criminal offense under part 1 of Article 299 (cruelty to animals) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for a punishment of imprisonment for a term of one to three years or detention for a term of two to three years with confiscation of the animal.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Soon, a court will decide on a preventive measure for the suspect.
