On Saturday, May 25, the city-wide chess championship for students in grades 1–4, known as the “Chess Cup of Lviv,” took place at Secondary School No. 7. A total of 243 pupils from various Lviv schools participated in this intellectual competition. The event was organized by the Department of Education and Culture of the Lviv City Council.
The young players competed in both team and individual formats. Despite their age, the tournament was filled with intense and exciting matches, each requiring focus, strategic thinking, and endurance.
Yuliia Savchuk, coordinator of the city’s chess development program, emphasized that such tournaments not only foster a competitive spirit but also help children build discipline, logical thinking, attentiveness, and the ability to gracefully handle both victories and losses. She noted that chess remains an integral part of the educational process in many Lviv schools.
