
Alina Dmytruk became the European champion in epee fencing
The European Cadet Fencing Championship is being held in Antalya (Turkey) from February 23 to March 2.
The fencer from Lviv region, Alina Dmytruk, won the individual epee competition. She was unstoppable: winning all her matches in the pool and continued to shine in the direct elimination tournament. In the final, the epee fencer faced her Italian opponent Ludovica Costantini and beat her with a score of 15:10.
First successes on the international stage
For Alina Dmytruk, this is her first individual medal in competitions of this level. Recall that in June, at the European Youth Championship, she won gold as part of the team. Another fencer from Lviv, Anna Maksymenko, also competed in the team. This was the first team gold medal in the history of the European Championships for young people under 23 years old.
Other achievements of Ukrainian fencers
Fencer from Lviv region, Maksym Hula, achieved a fifth-place result in the individual epee competition at the European Cadet Championship. The athlete reached the quarter-finals but lost at this stage to another Ukrainian, Arseniy Karapysh.
Alina Dmytruk and Maksym Hula are representatives of the regional ‘School of Higher Sports Excellence’. Alina Dmytruk also represents the FSC ‘Dynamo’. The fencers are coached by the honored coaches of Ukraine, Andriy Orlikovsky and Zoryana Semeryak.
