
Chess player Anna Muzychuk won the prestigious international tournament Norway Chess 2025, defeating the reigning world champion.
The athlete from Stryi scored 16.5 points over 10 games, winning two and drawing eight, five of which she won in ‘Armageddon’. She suffered no losses. In the ninth round, Muzychuk defeated China’s Ju Wenjun, the reigning world champion since 2018.
The Norway Chess 2025 standings are as follows: Anna Muzychuk (Ukraine) — 16.5 points, Lei Tingjie (China) — 16, Humpy Koneru (India) — 15, Ju Wenjun (China) — 13.5, Vaishali Rameshbabu (India) — 11, Sara Khadem (Spain) — 9.
“In the men’s Norway Chess tournament, the victory was claimed by one of the most titled chess players of modern times, Magnus Carlsen, who joined Anna Muzychuk at the awards ceremony,” noted Roman Khimiak, Director of the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of Lviv Regional State Administration.
