Anna Muzychuk became the world vice-champion in blitz chess.
The chess player reached the top four at the end of the main round of the competition, finishing the overall stage in second place. In the semifinals, Anna defeated Dutch player Elin Roberts, but lost to Kazakhstan’s representative Bibisara Assaubayeva in the finals.
This is Anna Muzychuk’s third medal at the World Blitz Chess Championship. She became the champion in 2016 and won the silver medal in 2019.
“Anna Muzychuk is originally from Stryi, and it was in this city that she grew as an athlete. Anna’s father and mother are honored coaches of Ukraine in this sport, and they are the ones who taught their daughters chess: Anna and Mariya. The two girls later became grandmasters. This once again confirms that not only in regional centers but also in smaller communities, stars of world sports can emerge,” states Roman Khimyak, the director of the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
