Athletes from Lviv Region delivered a strong performance at the World Armwrestling Championships, held in New Delhi (India), which brought together over 1,600 competitors from more than 65 countries. The region’s representatives secured a full set of medals — one gold, one silver and two bronze.
Ivan Tovarnytskyi became world champion among para-athletes, taking 1st place in the up to 65 kg weight category with his left arm. Pavlo Panasenko won silver — 2nd place among para-athletes in the up to 85 kg category (UORA, one arm standing) with his left arm.
Anna Irodenko claimed a double bronze. She finished 3rd with her left arm and 3rd with her right arm among junior women U18 in the up to 70 kg weight category.
The Director of the Department of Sport, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Roman Khimiak, noted that Ivan Tovarnytskyi had been working towards this victory for many years and had already become European champion this year, after which he confirmed his level on the world stage.
Ivan Tovarnytskyi’s coach is Honoured Coach of Ukraine Bohdan Ivanytskyi. Anna Irodenko and Pavlo Panasenko are coached by Ihor Ivanytskyi. Tovarnytskyi and Panasenko represent the Galichyna Children and Youth Sports School for People with Disabilities (DYUSShOI «Halychyna»), while Irodenko competes for the Lviv Regional Children and Youth Sports School.
In addition to the medallists, Lviv Region was also worthily represented at the World Championships by Vladyslav Moravskyi, Mariia Katynska, Ivan Dziailo, Nadiia Bytsiv, Andrii Pikalov and Tymofii Dmytriv, who all finished just short of the podium.
