In the finals of the Ukrainian basketball championship, the team of the city of Sambor won the bronze award of the men’s Higher League. In the last match, the people of Kharkiv won in overtime with a score of 93:88. However, the basketball players of Sambor won the bronze medal of the championship according to the results of the standings, having scored eight points compared to the seven points of the Kharkiv players.
On the eve of the final, on April 22, the Sambir players played a game with the Rivne basketball club, which ended with a score of 92:101. It was the representatives of the Rivne Region that won the gold of the Higher League this year, so next season they will be able to compete for Super League awards.
The head coach of the Sambir club is Volodymyr Polyakh from Sambir. He spent 17 years as a player of the Mykolaiv basketball team, later became the assistant head coach and, eventually, the team’s head coach. The man also worked as the head coach of the youth basketball team of Ukraine, the club “Lviv Polytechnic” and “Khortytsia” from Zaporozhye.
Note that the men’s basketball Super League season will also end. According to the results of the championship, the Lviv club “Polytechnic-Halychyna” finished the season with 15 victories in fifth place, having scored 47 points.
