Ukrainian Female Wrestlers Win Medals at the 2025 European Championship

The European Wrestling Championship is being held for the first time in history in Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava, from April 7 to 14. Representatives from 34 countries are competing in this prestigious continental event, with a total of 443 participants. Athletes are vying for awards in three styles: Greco-Roman, freestyle, and women’s wrestling, competing across 30 weight categories.

Performances of Ukrainian Female Athletes

Ukraine is represented by a strong team — 30 athletes are fighting for top honors in their categories. The women’s team includes wrestlers from Lviv region, who are already well-known on the international stage:

  • Oleksandra Khomenets (55 kg) — two-time World Championship medalist, European vice-champion, and multiple medalist in the European Youth Championships;
  • Manola Skobelska (68 kg) — two-time European U20 Champion, multiple medalist in the European Youth Championship;
  • Alla Belinska (72 kg) — European Champion, holder of the World Cup, and multiple medalist in continental competitions.

Results of the Performances

  • Oleksandra Khomenets (55 kg) won a bronze medal. In the quarterfinals, she confidently defeated Romanian Beatrice Ionela Ferent with a score of 8:4. In the semifinals, she was defeated by Ekaterina Verbina (a Russian competing under a neutral flag), who later became the champion. In the bronze final, Oleksandra prevailed over Turkish Tuba Demir — 6:2.
  • Manola Skobelska (68 kg) finished fifth in the tournament. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Kendra Augustine Joselyn Dacher (France) — 6:5. She was defeated in the semifinals by future champion Alina Shauchuk (a Russian competing under a neutral flag), and in the bronze final, she lost to Turkish Buse Tosun with a score of 6:9.
  • Alla Belinska (72 kg) has already secured a place in the final, which will take place today, April 11. We are looking forward to her performance and hope for another medal for the Ukrainian team.

“Manola Skobelska and Alla Belinska are representatives of the Lviv Regional ‘School of Higher Sports Mastery,’ while Oleksandra Khomenets is from Lviv State University named after Ivan Bobersky,” states Roman Khimyak, head of the sports, youth, and tourism department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
