Wrestler from Lviv region Manola Skobelska finishes fifth at World Championships

Manola Skobelska, representing the Lviv region, has ranked among the world’s top five wrestlers in the up to 68 kg weight category at the Senior World Wrestling Championships currently taking place in Astana (Kazakhstan). The Ukrainian athlete finished the competition in fifth place, falling just short of the bronze medal.

On her way to the medal finals, Skobelska made a confident start, defeating Kazakhstan’s Irina Kazyulina 6:0. In the quarter-finals she lost 0:10 to China’s Jia Long, but as her opponent advanced to the final, she earned a chance to continue her campaign through the repechage.

In the repechage round, the Lviv wrestler overcame Colombia’s Maria Fernanda Ceballos Cuena 4:0 to reach the bronze medal bout. In the decisive contest for third place, Manola faced the Czech representative Adela Hanzlickova. Regular time ended in a 6:6 draw, but under the last-point-wins rule, victory was awarded to her opponent, leaving Skobelska in fifth place.

The athlete represents the Regional Olympic Training Centre. She is coached by Orest Skobelskyi and Oleksandr Tkach.
