Karate athlete Diana Popova won a silver medal at the European Karate Championship.
The 53rd European Karate Championship for Cadets, Juniors, and U21 was held in Limassol, Cyprus. The competition featured 1,195 athletes from 46 countries, including 36 Ukrainians.
“The Ukrainian youth team won 13 medals, including 4 gold, 7 silver, and 2 bronze. Our karate athletes took the first overall team place, which is a historic result for Ukraine,” stated Roman Khimiak, director of the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
Lviv club ‘Union’ trainee Diana Popova captured the silver medal in the ‘cadet’ category (-61 kg). Diana confidently navigated the challenging tournament grid and only yielded to her opponent in the final, showcasing true character and high skill.
Additionally, three more representatives from Lviv region competed in the European Championship: Nazar Sokha, Sofia Koshel, and Solomiya Voloshyn. Just short of medals, they gained invaluable experience at the level of the strongest athletes in Europe.
