
Ukrainian Floorball Players Win Silver on the International Stage
The World Winter Special Olympics took place in Turin, Italy, from March 8 to 15. 1500 athletes from 96 delegations competed in 8 sports.
Valentyna Chervinka and Liliya Zhyrak from Novoyavorivsk, as part of the Ukrainian national floorball team, won the silver medal (coach Nataliya Kulyk).
Competition Progress
Initially, ten teams played several games. Based on the match results, the teams were divided into divisions. The Ukrainians entered Division A (stronger teams), where each of the four teams played against each other: Bangladesh, Ukraine, Trinidad and Tobago, Bharat (India).
After the group stage, the semifinal pairs were formed: Bangladesh – Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine – Bharat (India).
In the final, Bangladesh defeated Ukraine 4-2, while Bharat, beating Trinidad, finished third.

History of the Special Olympics
The Special Olympics was created in 1968 in the USA as an organization to support and develop sports for people with intellectual disabilities, especially through competitions at various levels: from regional to international. The Special Olympics World Summer Games are held every four years.
