
The Ukrainian U-17 junior handball team secured third place at the European Championship in the Championship division.
This success earned the team a spot in the elite division of Euro-2027 (U-19). The team included 8 representatives from the Lviv region. Among the field players were Kateryna Nazarenko, Angelina Prokopets, Khrystyna Kosmynka, Kristina Gedz, Maryna Petrenko, and Olga Mykhailyuk. Natalia Tkach and Yulia Bodnarchuk were the goalkeepers. The team’s head coach is Vitaliy Nadych from Lviv.
In the group stage, the Ukrainians lost to Italy (23:26) but defeated Great Britain (30:19) and Israel (27:26), which allowed them to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, they were defeated by Finland (31:32) despite leading by 8 goals. In the bronze medal match, the Ukrainians triumphed over Bulgaria (36:29).
“Additionally, two players from the Lviv region made it to the symbolic Euro-2025 (Championship, U-17) team. Yulia Bodnarchuk was recognized as the best goalkeeper, and Kateryna Nazarenko as the best left-winger,” said Roman Khimyak, director of the Department of Sports, Youth, and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
