“Pokrova Amp” Remains Undefeated in the Fifth Round of the Championship

The “Pokrova Amp” team maintained their unbeaten streak in the fifth round of the Polish amputee football championship.

In Wroclaw, on July 5-6, the team played three matches against opponents from the championship’s “silver” group. In the first match against “Zawisza” from Bydgoszcz, the Ukrainians won 2:1, with Mykola Oleksiienko scoring twice. In the next match against Poznań’s “Warta”, “Pokrova Amp” won 4:1. Here, the goals were scored by Mykola Oleksiienko, Valentyn Osovskyi, Yaroslav Kachmar, and Serhiy Zvekov.

Volodymyr Zhezlo and Stepan Korobkin made their championship debut for Poland in this game. The fifth round concluded with a match against Rzeszów’s “Stal” — a direct competitor of “Pokrova Amp” for leadership in the lower four of the Polish championship. The Lviv club managed to keep a clean sheet. The goals in this meeting were scored by Mykola Oleksiienko and Mykola Hatala, resulting in a 2:0 final score.

As a result of the 5th round, “Pokrova Amp” secured the maximum number of points — 9, strengthening their position in 5th place with 25 points. The gap from the nearest competitor now stands at 8 points. The next round of the Polish amputee football championship will take place on September 21-22 in Bydgoszcz.

“‘Pokrova Amp’ is the first amputee football team in Ukraine, whose players are military personnel and veterans of the Russo-Ukrainian war with injuries. In August 2023, the club was established in Lviv by the Salesian Fathers of St. John Bosco of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Military personnel and veterans with an amputation or functional impairment of one limb make up 80% of the team’s players”, recalls Roman Khimyak, director of the Department of Sports, Youth, and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
