Anna Maksimenko from Lviv won the Junior World Cup held in Laupheim, Germany for the first time. At the competition, the 16-year-old Ukrainian woman became the best out of 202 skewerers.
After the group stage, the woman from Lviv received the 43rd seed and defeated local fencer Matilda Kunish in the 1/64 final (15:12). Later, Maksimenko beat the Ukrainian Oleksandra Romanova with a similar score, was stronger than the Hungarian Reka Salamon (15:7), and in the match to reach the top 8 again met the Ukrainian Elizaveta-Olga Korniychuk. Their fight ended with a score of 15:10 in favor of Anna.
Already in the quarterfinals, the leader of the All-Ukrainian cadet and junior rankings defeated the Frenchwoman Anaelle Doquet (15:8), after which she won the championship over Dorina Wimmer (15:14) from Hungary with a minimal advantage, and in the final she won against the Italian Vittoria Siletta (15:9). .
In this way, Anna Maksimenko won the “gold” of the Junior World Cup for the first time in her career. Prior to that, her best result at this level was 13th at a similar event in Udine in January 2022. At the same time, the woman from Lviv has already climbed the podium of the junior world championship – this April she won the “bronze” in Plovdiv.
