Lviv residents won 5 medals at the European Games

The 3rd European Games ended yesterday in Krakow (Poland). In total, at the Games, Ukrainian athletes won 41 awards of various kinds: 21 gold, 12 silver, and 8 bronze medals. It is important to add that 3 “gold”, and to be more precise, 5 medals are going to Lviv.

“It is particularly pleasing to note that the people of Lviv participated in this powerful result at the European Games in Poland. Our athletes won five medals (three medals went into the medal tally, as Lviv residents won together in some disciplines). Valery Tereta, Yuliya and Pavlo Korostylovy and Anastasia Nimets contributed to this result,” the Lviv sports administration notes.

The European Games turned out to be especially successful for rower Valeriya Tereta. Valeriya, together with her colleague Ludmila Luzan, triumphed at the distance of 500 meters in the canoe duo. Without exaggeration, for the pupil of Mykhailo Potsyurk and Volodymyr Dec, a gold medal is the greatest sporting achievement in his career. Valeriya is also a student of the Lviv Professional College of Sports and trains at the Veslyarik Sports Complex.

In addition to rowing, the residents of Lviv traditionally excelled in shooting. Pavlo Korostylov and Yulia Korostylova from Lviv won the rapid-fire pistol competition in mixed teams.

The third medal for the city of Leva was won by Anastasia Nemec and Yulia Korostylova. Olympic champion Olena Kostevich helped them in this. Ukrainian girls competed in team shooting at 25 meters with a pistol. After two excellent qualifying rounds, our shooters made it to the gold final, guaranteeing at least silver. In the final, they had to face the Polish hosts: the first series were close and tied, but then the Ukrainian shooters made a serious breakthrough and managed to keep the advantage – 16:10 in favor of the Ukrainian women.

It is important to add that many of our other athletes were close to medals in various sports. In particular, the city of Lev was represented in breaking by Oleksandr Gatyn-Lozynskyi, in rowing, in addition to the champion Valeria Tereta, Oleksandr Zaitsev and Vitaly Vergeles, in karate – Kateryna Kryva and Galina Melnyk, in athletics – Roman Rostykus, in shot put – Svyatoslav Hudziy, in in bench shooting – Olena Okhotska, in modern pentathlon – Yuriy Kovalchuk, in triathlon – Sofia Priyma, and in fencing – Danyil Goyda, Rostyslav Hertsyk and Claude Yunes.
