Lviv to receive a 250,000-dollar grant for adaptive sport

Lviv will attract a 250,000-dollar international Global Cities Fund 2026 grant to develop adaptive sport. Over two years, the funds will be directed towards regular training sessions, the purchase of specialised equipment and the organisation of inclusive sporting events.

Since 2023, the city has had the first military sports department in Ukraine, which develops sporting opportunities for service personnel, war veterans and people with disabilities. Its tasks include organising training and competitions, providing participants with sports kit and equipment, as well as creating conditions for engaging in regular physical activity.

According to the Sports Office of the Lviv City Council, the grant funds are planned to be directed towards the development of such areas as wheelchair basketball, archery, table tennis, pétanque, rowing on ergometers and adaptive fitness. Separate provision is made for the purchase of specialised equipment and the organisation of inclusive events, including competitions in the UNBROKEN GAMES format.

“Our goal is for sport to be not only a form of physical activity, but a clear tool for recovery and for finding new meaning,” said Anton Nikulin.

The project will be implemented by the Sports Office of the Lviv City Council and the LCP ‘Sportresurs’ in cooperation with partner organisations over the period 2026–2028.
