Lviv Region to Host MMA Tournament in Memory of Andriy Harasym

Lviv Region is preparing for the national mixed martial arts MMA tournament dedicated to the memory of Andriy Harasym.

The event will take place on December 20 in Lviv at the sports hall of «Halychyna» Palace of Sports #2. Athletes of different age categories, including children, boys, juniors, and youth, will participate in the tournament. There will be over 130 participants from all over Ukraine, representing about 20 sports clubs.

The competition is organized to honor the memory of Andriy Harasym, a junior sergeant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who gave his life defending the independence of our state. Andriy Harasym, with the call sign «Petrov», voluntarily went to the front in the early days of the full-scale invasion. He served in the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he proved to be a dedicated, brave, and experienced warrior.

Unfortunately, Andriy died on August 19, 2023, during the assault on enemy positions on the outskirts of Bakhmut city in the Donetsk region. He is buried in Sambir District, in the village of Ralivka. Andriy Harasym was only 22 years old.

“Recently, in the Lviv region, one of the largest MMA tournaments in Ukraine, the ‘Lemberg Fight Cup’, took place. It was dedicated to the memory of the legendary athlete Ihor Slyusarchuk, who was Ukraine’s first honored Master of Sports in free-fight, a two-time world champion, and a professional MMA fighter. Memory should be alive, and such events are one way of honoring it,” said the director of the department of sports, youth, and tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Roman Khimyak.
