Lviv Region Determined the Most Athletic Communities of 2023

On December 2 in Lviv, the results of the ‘Sports Games of Lviv Region’, which lasted throughout the year, were summed up.

About 2000 people participated in the final competitions, including 34 adult teams, 28 veteran teams, and 13 teams of people with disabilities. Participants competed in 17 sports, including badminton, swimming, table tennis, checkers, basketball, Nordic walking, beach volleyball, 3×3 basketball, tourism, athletics cross, volleyball, chess, and air rifle shooting. An event for sports families called ‘Mom, Dad, and Me – An Active Family’ also took place.

The winners among rural and town communities in the ‘People with Disabilities’ category was Shchyretska community, among veterans – Strilkivska community, and among adults – also Strilkivska community. Among city communities in the ‘People with Disabilities’ category, Sambir community won, among veterans – Novoyavorivska community, and among adults – Chervonohrad community.

‘For the first time this year, we introduced the ‘absolute’ category. These are the winners and prize-winners based on the results of three categories: among adults, veterans, and people with disabilities. This way, we received the most relevant indicator of each community’s development in this area,’ said Roman Khimyak, Director of the Department of Sports, Youth, and Tourism of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.

The absolute winners were Novoyavorivska, Novorozdilska, and Sambir communities. ‘Today we have a real celebration – a celebration of sports and team spirit. The games are not only an opportunity to compete and gain emotions but also to communicate and exchange experiences between communities. We have winners, but there are definitely no losers,’ said Volodymyr Matseliukh, Mayor of Novoyavorivsk.

‘I sincerely thank all the participants for the emotions, drive, and readiness to compete. A special thanks to those who started as families – it’s especially important for children to see active, sporty, and motivated parents. I am grateful to the Department of Sports, Youth, and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration and the Lviv Regional Center for Physical Health of the Population ‘Sport for All’ for the quality organization of the competitions. It’s important for us that communities compete benevolently, supporting one another. This is co-participation, trust, and the strength of the community. We will definitely stand. Because we have those who fight and those for whom it’s worth fighting,’ said Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
