
Lviv Karateka Triumph at Nationwide Competitions
On April 6, the Ukrainian Cup of Shotokan Karate-Do SKIF took place in Kyiv. The team, led by the head of the Lviv regional branch of Shotokan Karate-Do SKIF, Oleh Matyash, managed to proudly represent our region.
Successes of the Lviv Team
Altogether, 12 regions of Ukraine from 36 clubs gathered to compete for the title of the strongest region. Once again, Lviv’s national team confidently secured first place overall.
The best athlete of the Ukrainian Cup was seven-year-old Manko Matviy from our area, who won four gold medals.
“Karateka from Lviv region, consisting of 80 athletes, won 31 gold medals and became champions for the third consecutive time,” said Roman Khymyak, Director of the Department of Sports, Youth, and Tourism of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
Future Plans
The Ukrainian Cup is the first stage of selection for the 2026 World Championship, which will be held in Turkey. Additionally, athletes are preparing for the Ukrainian Shotokan Karate-Do SKIF Championship, which will take place in the fall. It will be the second qualifying stage for the continental championship.
